Participation at WRC World Rally Championship

The Accent is the mainstay model used by Hyundai Motor to compete in the WRC Championship. On graduating from WRC Formula 2 Division in 2000, Hyundai is one of the major competitors in the WRC.

"We're competitors at heart and rallying has always been an integral part of our plans to grow the Hyundai brand," said Global Marketing and Communications Senior Executive Vice President Harry Choi.

"...the company will establish a new World Rally Team Headquarters at the Design and Technical Center in Russelsheim, Germany and will begin aggressive recruitment of top talent to fortify the team's engineering capabilities."

"Hyundai's rally support team, currently based at the Namyang R&D Center in Korea, will also relocate to Russelsheim as part of the effort to integrate all motorsport development activities in-house."

2001: Alister McRae finishes fourth on Rally GB - his final event for the team

2000: Equal fifth in the constructors title

1999: Second overall in WRC F2 division

1998: Enters F2 division of World Championship

World Rally Cars are not ordinary cars. Far from it. They are the super-heroes of cars, capable of extraordinary feats. Cars with enough horse power under their bonnets to literally fly round the most punishing terrains in the world and then stop in a second.

They're familiar because the FIA stipulates that every World Rally Car must originate from its fourseater road-car and be available to the general public (so at least 25,000 of them must have been built). But that's where the similarities end...
